Chennai braced for another night of heavy rainfall on Thursday as the city recorded 35 cm of precipitation in a 24-hour period, the highest single-day rainfall in a decade.
The Greater Chennai Corporation declared a holiday for schools and colleges, and the state government deployed 12 NDRF teams across waterlogged zones in Tambaram, Velachery, and Adyar.
Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed the flood situation from the state emergency operations centre and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5,000 for flood-affected families.
